Biking

Hinton is gaining speed with its reputation as a mountain biking mecca in Western Canada. Backed by the Hinton Mountain Bike Association, there is a fantastic free access mountain bike skills park and an extensive trail network right in Hinton.

The Hinton Mountain Bike Association (HMBA) was formed by a few locals that saw a need to improve mountain biking in Hinton. HMBA became a registered society in Alberta on February 22, 2007 and has since grown membership to over 300 riders.

The latest trail development HMBA is involved in is the Bighorn Ridge project. The project is being led by West Fraser and will see an up-trail to the top of the Bighorn Ridge offering spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains to the west and the foothills to the east. The project currently has one down-trail with the plan to have many more built in the coming years.

There are also many smaller trails you can discover when exploring Hinton, many maintained by the municipality. It’s always important to have the right safety equipment when biking including a proper helmet. Always ride on trails that are to your current abilities and avoid riding in wet conditions as this can damage our trails.
